You’ve trained your body. You’ve sharpened your skills. But when the game’s on the line, it can all go out of the window if your mind isn’t ready.

The truth is: performance is mental. The greatest athletes in history across all sports share one thing in common: an elite mindset that elevates them above their competition. Calm under pressure. Confident in the storm. Flexible when things don’t go to plan. That’s not random or luck. That’s training.

Don’t leave your performance to chance. Come train with me and take control.

Turning Challenges into Competitive Advantages

Is this you?

  • “I’m great in practice, but I can’t replicate that level in games.”

  • “I get nervous and overthink before big moments.”

  • “When I make one mistake early, it ruins the rest of my performance.”

  • “I know I have the skills, but I doubt myself when it matters most.”

  • “I’m worried I won’t be the same after my injury.”

  • “I struggle to stay motivated during the off-season or tough training blocks.”

  • “I’m fine in small meets or games, but big tournaments feel overwhelming.”

  • “I put too much pressure on myself to be perfect.”

  • “I replay mistakes in my head instead of staying in the moment.”

  • “I can’t seem to block out negative thoughts, and I lose focus.”

Instead, you can…

  • Perform in games with the same confidence and execution as in practice — greater even

  • Channel nerves into focused and positive energy and stay composed

  • Bounce back from mistakes quickly, reset focus, and stay locked in

  • Trust my abilities in critical moments and compete without hesitation

  • Perform without fear and with confidence

  • Maintain drive and intensity with clear goals, purpose, and daily habits

  • Approach every stage with the same calm, confident mindset

  • Focus on what I can control: effort, improvement, and execution — not perfection

  • Quickly reset and keep attention on the next play or point

  • Don’t attend to negative thoughts; instead, redirect to helpful thoughts and the present.

Mental Skills Training:

What It Isn’t — And What It Is

  • While there can be overlap between mental health and mental performance, my expertise and this work is focused on providing tools and techniques to help you perform at your best.

  • Investing in mental skills training isn’t just for struggling athletes, nor is it a sign of a “weak mind.” In fact, it reflects one of the most desirable traits of successful performers — a growth mindset. It means you’re committed to improvement and open to exploring strategies that could help you excel. We’ll troubleshoot any issues hindering performance. And, just as importantly, we’ll build on your existing strengths to elevate your game even further. Many performers use mental training to stay sharp, push through plateaus, and gain a lasting competitive edge.

  • There’s no quick fix or magic pill. While change can happen quickly for some, building lasting mental skills requires practice, repetition, and dedication to realize the best results.

  • Mental skills training benefits anyone who wants to improve, regardless of competition level, sport, or performance area. It’s another resource to help in pursuit of your full potential. If you’re serious about getting better, it’s for you.

 FAQs

  • Sport psychology is the study and application of psychological principles to help athletes improve performance and consistency, enhance well-being, and reach their goals through mental skills training.

There are two main branches: mental performance and mental health counseling. While these areas often overlap, and many professionals are trained in both, my expertise is mental performance: helping you develop the mindset and tools to consistently perform at your best.

  • Common mental skills include: confidence, attentional control (focus & concentration), emotional regulation, visualization, goal setting & achievement, and self-talk, among others. Other areas of focus can include transitioning out of sport, managing injury, and returning to play.

Your mindset can either be your greatest asset or your greatest opponent. In combination with your mental preparation, they can have a major impact on performance quality and consistency. They can be the difference between a “bad” and standout performance.

  • Although mental skills training was created for the aid of athletes, the benefits extend far beyond athletics.

Clients may include: athletes of all levels and ages, coaches, parents of athletes, the performing arts (dancers, musicians, actors), executives and business leaders, military personnel, and first responders.

The skills and strategies you can develop can performance in any area of life.

  • While both may use conversation-based sessions, uphold ethical guidelines, and maintain confidentiality, the focus is different.

Mental skills training does not aim to diagnose or treat mental health conditions and disorders. When clinical mental health support is needed, I may refer clients to licensed mental health providers.

  • It’s never too late to start. The benefits last at every stage.

Beginning at a young age can help build a strong foundation and adaptive habits earlier in your athletic development. However, depending on age, mental skills training may look different as readiness and maximum impact must be assessed. I encourage greater parent engagement for younger athletes to learn how to better support their athletes.

  • There’s no set timeline with this work. Some clients notice changes in the first few sessions; for others, progress happens gradually. Consistency over weeks, months, and years produces the greatest results.

  • Individual sessions: Discussions, assessments, hands-on activities, and learning tools tailored to your goals.

Team sessions: Topic-based workshops using interactive activities, team discussions, and shared reflections to spark insight and build group cohesion.

  • Both! I work with individuals, teams, and organizations. Popular team topics include leadership, communication, cohesion, resilience, team culture, and collective goal setting.

  • No. Mental performance coaching is typically not covered by insurance unless provided as part of clinical therapy by a licensed mental health provider. All sessions are paid out-of-pocket.

  • Schedule a consultation using the “Contact Us” form below or the “Schedule” buttons on this site. We’ll discuss your story, your goals, and create a tailored plan for you or your team.
